WAM BAM is the exciting, intensive and fun 48 hour speed animation competition run by the West Australian animation association, WAnimate.
This unique competition pits several teams against each other in an all-out battle to cook up the most creative, animated film they can - all within the incredibly challenging deadline. Each team of up to five participants draws three random words from a hat. These words are used as a springboard to inspire the rapid brainstorming of creative story ideas.
Armed with these ideas and using supplied hardware, software and facilities, teams set about in a flurry of frantic concept art, crazed character design, manic set building and all manor of technical wizardry – culminating in the production of a short and often hilarious, animated film.A public screening is held on the last night for all team members, family, friends, supporters and industry representatives. Awards are given out by both a panel of judges and popular vote. Final films will also be made available through the WAnimate website and distributed via collective, promotional DVDs with many participants also including their films on showreels.
Supporters and sponsors include West Coast Institute of Training, ScreenWest, Murdoch University, Animation Works and Lastpixel.
When: 6pm Friday 9th July – 6pm Sunday 11th July (Public screening at Sunday 7pm 11th July)
Where: West Coast Institute of Training - Joondalup campus.
